Continuing on our series of team bio features, today we will be talking to Shana DeRoche, our current Senior Event Specialist for Envision Weddings and Events.
Shana completed the Envision Weddings internship in the 2015 Winter/Spring season, and her talents quickly secured her a more permanent position on the team. She's since oversaw several of our events from a day-of coordination capacity and spends her days running around ensuring no stone is left unturned for our clients!
What is your most memorable planning experience during your time here at Envision Weddings?
Probably a toss-up between doing décor coordination for Victoria and James, because there were soooo many personal and intricate details from hundreds of those tiny golden horses, to a custom reclaimed wood Craft Beer Bar, and who could really forget the millions of trips up and down that 100 year old elevator, with the icing on the cake being tearing down until 4:30am, definitely a serious labour of love. But then, I’ve never experienced the kind of planning that went into this year’s #Rashruv experience [Rashi + Dhruv's 5-day Indian extravaganza]. The amount of hours, planning and driving around that had to be done to accomplish this 5-day bender was insurmountable, and the whole team was involved for so long so it’s definitely one that is hard to forget.
What is your favourite unique wedding detail that you've witnessed/designed?
There were life-sized lawn games at Liz and Mark’s garden party luncheon! I also really loved at Kimberly and Ryan’s wedding when the groomsmen and other college friends of the groom all performed a traditional Rugby Haka for the bride – very unique and so much fun!
What is the most challenging aspect of the business in your opinion?
Timing is everything! No one wedding is the same, and you can never anticipate how many little pickups, drop-offs, meetings you’ll have for one client. So making the time whenever you can is probably the biggest challenge for me. That and appreciating every brides’ taste.
What is your favourite colour palette?
I’m really into earthy tones right now. Terra cottas, with greens, sandy colours. Think succulents with clay pots, small intimate wedding on the beach. I also have my absolute FAVOURITE but it’s for my wedding so I can’t say! :P
What do you do during your downtime?
SLEEP! I work a lot, so sleep is necessary. I also spend a lot of time with my boyfriend and fur baby down in the Beaches where I live. I also like to read, but don’t have nearly as much time to do that during the summer sadly.
What is one quirky fact that people may not know about you?
I have mild OCD. My mats on the floor all have to be straight, I only eat with smaller utensils, I also walk to the right of people or it makes me uncomfortable.
Shana holds a diploma in Special Events Management and a diploma in Business Marketing, both from George Brown College. Although she'll be moving on from Envision Weddings as of December, her next step is to start her own event planning business, coming soon!
